#5- Unfinished Business

Academic Financial Plan for 2009-2010

Discussions, concerns, and questions stated by SCC board members and audience participants:

Academic coach position is not negotiable (SCC parent rep)

Parent's concern regarding the "minutes" not properly addressed (parent)

       Has the AFP been passed?

Voting is responsibility of SCC board representatives.   For some parents in the audience this is the first time hearing of some issues.  May need to schedule another meeting (parent)

AFP needs to be determined by SCC Board by December ____

Rekeying-of-school cost ($16K) not coming from SCC.   Funds are coming from outside resources.   $2000 coming from WSF.   $3000 coming from administrative funds.   Anything over $10,000 needs governor's approval.   Monies coming from this year's budget, not from future money (Principal)

Does AFP need to be passed?.... yes.   Need to have consensus among the SCC council to pass AFP.  Trying to build consensus  (SCC parent rep)

Has SCC already made up their minds?  No discussion opened?  New format was brought out.  Now we must just sit and listen to panel.  Are matters already a "done deal"?  (parent)

Create parent meetings on the side.  Better thing for parents.  Some parents may not be comfortable with new format.  Dissatisfied with handling of discrepancy regarding the classified staff report (parent)

Inform parents on issues beforehand, so that they can come prepared before the meeting.  Could have been informed in change of format (parent)

The effects on GE families not clearly communicated outside of meetings.  Was not aware of issues (possible non acceptance of kindergarten GEs).  Found out about issues from other parents.  SCC parent representative vote does not represent "me".  Parent voice overlooked.  Not empathetic.  Your vote is invalid.  (parent)

Eight ballots not returned.  Could swing results in a different way.  There's a need to get everyone to vote.  Need a proper procedure of votings.  (parent)

Is it possible to compare current AFP to next year's AFP? (parent)

Can you tell more about the "adhoc committee?"  (parent)

Open discussion on current proposed AFP

Correction:  change sped teachers to "3”.  Count given by District.  Weighted count determines how many sped teachers given to a school.  (1) Pre-K teacher, (2) Gr K-6 teachers  (principal)

Will we be revisiting the Supplemental List?  (parent)

Will there be further discussion on the grade level position to be cut?

For clarification the full-time teacher position is not necessarily stating "which" grade level to be on the supplemental list?  (parent)

Lots of parents thought that this meeting was going to be a working meeting. (parent)

Will respond later in meeting (principal)

We're trying to build a consensus. (SCC parent rep)

Need to improve how we hear from parents. Email opportunity needed and wanted.  Difficult to find time to meet.  Perhaps parents can come early to meetings for verbal discussion? (SCC parent rep)

Agree that we need to improve how we hear from parent.  Became SCC chairperson about one month ago. Email always an option.  Need to have SCC minutes and issues published one week beforehand.  Hope to have not created any hard feelings for any GE families.  Once a GE family.  GE families and kids are a priceless asset. (SCC parent rep)

Commend SCC reps for volunteering time.  Need to gain avenues to communicate with parent representative. (principal)

Difficult to get 100% response/votes.  What does a blank ballot mean?  How do we handle ballots that are not accounted for?  Learning opportunity for staff. (principal)

Not a fair budget to compare.  Most affect is to the supply cost.  Focus on bringing positions back. (principal)

SCC Teacher rep describes how "adhoc" idea formed in the 12/8  meeting and the surveying experience of certificated staff which took place on 12/10

Will not be revisiting.  Already voted upon in last meeting.  (SCC parent rep)

Important to discuss which grade level position but not at tonight's meeting (SCC parent rep)

Will need to discuss position.  Decision needs to be made.  So far it is kindergarten. (principal)

       Yes  (SCC parent rep)

There's been a misunderstanding.  This meeting is not a working meeting.  The goal of this meeting is to vote on the AFP.  (SCC parent rep)

Motion to vote on AFP.  Seconded.

Results of SCC Board voting:  7 to 0 in favor of passing the AFP
